We were honored to be joined by Ms. Elizabeth Ongom, the Operations Advisor – Civil Society and Social Development at the European Union Delegation to Uganda and officials from Caritas Switzerland and Uganda Prisons Service.
After visiting six prison units and interacting with prison officers, inmates, student facilitators and some ex-inmates in Lango and Acholi sub-regions, Ms. Ongom expressed her appreciation for our choice of beneficiaries who are vulnerable and often forgotten when designing development interventions. She encouraged the inmates undergoing training not to take it for granted because many people would pay a lot of money to get the same skills and knowledge. She also pledged continuous support to enrich the intervention of social rehabilitation and economic empowerment of ex-inmates in northern Uganda.
Ms. Ogom’s visit was part of a monitoring mission of the Economic Empowerment and Social Reintegration of Youth Ex-prisoners Project in Acholi and Lango Sub-regions, northern Uganda. Advance Afrika is implementing this project in partnership with Uganda Prisons Service with funding from European Union and Caritas Switzerland.
