Matthew Sebastian

Matthew Sebastian is currently a PhD candidate in Cultural Anthropology at Duke University in the United States. He has been conducting research in northern Uganda since 2009 and is currently working on a project that considers the ways in which young people navigate states of security and vulnerability as well as the consequences of humanitarian action in the aftermath of prolonged conflict. Previously, he has conducted research in Ghana, Kenya, and Uganda on topics including memorialization, humanitarianism, peacebuilding, contemporary politics, and political violence. In addition to his research and role at Advance Afrika, he also directs a small CBO in Gulu that engages youth in educational and collaborative research opportunities.
